iPhone, Unlocked?
A teenager has reportedly "unlocked" the Apple iPhone, which is locked to AT&T network. George Hotz of New Jersey is a 17-year old college student who made it a personal project to unlock the iPhone since the beginning of summer.
He has set up his blog and announced that he had "unlocked" the hottest gadget in the market today. The iPhone, the iPod- Pocket PC- and- mobile phone in one, is currently only sold in the United States. The unlocking of the iPhone would serves as a gateway for iPhone lovers to use the gadget with all its features, including its cellphone functions, even without using AT&T's network.
A reporter verified that the iPhone Hotz brought in to AP's quarters has a T-Mobile SIM card and it was fully functional. It uses the T-Mobile network, instead of AT&T, which exclusively own iPhone's distribution rights. Unlocking the iPhone is a serious of tedious procedure of soldering and loading a software. A single mistake can cause the iPhone to be dysfunctional and useless.
They are reportedly other methods of unlocking an iPhone. Some group of hackers successfully hacked the AT&T network using specialized software, which they tend to sell in the future.
For iPhone lovers overseas, iPhone is set to release their product in the near future. Better wait for it or you can scout for the unlocking schemes of hackers, which may cost you a small fortune.
