Looking around the internet at forums

I have been looking around the internet at forums, and found so many forums that stop all links like:

• link in sigs for members to view only
• no links in posts

After viewing these forums it has come clear to me how sad some sites can be, what they should remember is that if there website is that good these links will not efect them

What do you think?
is there really any point to them doing this?

Maybe they dont want their people getting drawn away by someone elses site. Some of those places could be really paranoid about that. Some sites could also be businesses that will want to charge you if you want to advertise like that on their site.

Some forums don't like signature links, because some members join only for the purpose of advertising through sigs. "Signature posting" services also exist on some paid-postings. They invite posters: "We want you put this and this link in your sig and then post a lot. Quality of posts doesn't matter. We pay 5c/post..."
These services will maybe ask someone to post on your forum without your invitation...This is why Moneymakergroup forum or some others doesn't allow sigs at all.

I saw once that someone was offering 5c/post for posts with a particualr sig on Digitalpoint, Sitepoint and other great forums. This can ruin your forum (a little).
One solution is if you set registrations to be possible only by admin invitation. But this is so disattractive. Not easy to be a forum admin...

also that can put people off from registering, if the posts are good posts then its not bad, also if it is noticed that the person is doing that then removing them so they cant have a sig can be done

I will ask one offtpic here: Does any protection against copying text content exist? I mean not for images (water marks and such), but for text.
If I write an article and want to sell it I will need to send an article to someone to judge if he will accept it, before he buys it. So...?

i mean i think it's a good way to share on webmaster forums, yes but on personal forums, i wouldn't prefer that.

if you have written the article your self then all should be ok, and dont send the article before they buy it as they can still use it if they dont pay
