| Hello! I encountered these problems when I installed PHP4 with Apache on Win 98. I would very much appreciate your help: When I go to http://localhost/phpinfo.php, it just shows: <? phpinfo() ?> instead of the PHP Version 4.0 graphic. When I try sample codes, the variables can't be turned into values(e.g. echo "<p>The price is $price.</p>" I carefully followed the article "Setup and Install apache + PHP4 on Windows" by Julie Meloni and tried several times but couldn't solve the problems. That is, 1.I extracted all the unzipped files to C:\Php4 and renamed 'php.ini-dist'as 'php.ini' and moved it to c:\Windows 2.I Moved 'Msvcrt.dll' and 'php4ts.dll' to c:\Windows\System 3.I edited conf\httpd.conf in Apache folder: ServerAdmin june@seashore.com (I'm not sure about this: One can freely name a ServerAdmin e.g. dog@playground.com?) ServerName localhost 4.I added: AcriptAlias /php4/ "C:/php4/" AddType application... AddType application... Action application.. 5. I made and saved phpinfo.php in Apache\htdocs (should I save all my application files, like time.php, calc01.php in this directory?) 6. I opened http://localhost/phpinfo.php and it only shows: <? phpinfo() ?>. Addition info on my Apache installation<OS is Win 98>: in the TCP/IP Properties dialogue box(Control Panel\Network\DNS Configuration) I chosed enable DNS, filled in localhost (for Host), www.seashore.com (for Domain) Question: The Host name and the Domain name should be corresponding with ServerName and ServerAdmin in Apache\conf\httpd.conf?--I'm not sure. When I type http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost as the URL in Netscape, the following message(Test Page) shows up(But MSIE5 doesn't work, why???): If you can see this, it means that the installation of the Apache web server software on this system was successful. You may now add content to this directory and replace this page. Seeing this instead of the website you expected? This page is here because the site administrator has changed the configuration of this web server. Please contact the person responsible for maintaining this server with questions. The Apache Software Foundation, which wrote the web server software this site administrator is using, has nothing to do with maintaining this site and cannot help resolve configuration issues. The Apache documentation has been included with this distribution. You are free to use the image below on an Apache-powered web server. Thanks for using Apache! ************************************************** ****************** Jack __________________________________________________ ______________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com | |||

| Big question #1: did you restart Apache after making the configuration changes? Next, assuming this: > AcriptAlias /php4/ "C:/php4/" is really: ScriptAlias /php4/ "C:/php4/" and this: > AddType application... is AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml and this: > Action application.. is Action application/x-httpd-php /php4/php.exe > 5. I made and saved phpinfo.php in Apache\htdocs (should I save all my > application files, like time.php, calc01.php in this directory?) Yes, all php files, like all html files, gif files, jpg files and anything else you want served up by a Web server should be in the document root (and directories w/in the document root). > I chosed enable DNS, filled in localhost (for Host), www.seashore.com (for > Domain) leave your network settings alone until you want to turn your machine into something the whole world will be connecting to. You don't have to make changes to it to make your machine = localhost. > When I type http://127.0.0.1 or http://localhost as the URL in Netscape, > the following message(Test Page) shows up( Then Apache is working dandily by itself. Double-check all the things you typed in the configuration directives, and be absolutely sure you restarted Apache. - Julie +------------------------------------------------+ | Julie Meloni | | Tech.
