PNG is not widely supported, at least not in Windows browsers.
What version of php are you using? I have gd.dll with gif support.

You should use the PNG image functions instead.

The GIF compression routine is copyrighted and the current owners of the
copyright do not allow its use unless you pay for it.

Anyway, the PNG functions have the same functionality, and the PNG
format is widely supported.

Actually, it is.

Both NS and IE have support for PNG after version 4.

Unfortunately, yhe support offered is rather poor. Apparently the only
major browser which fully implements the PNG graphcs is IE for MAc. at
the moment.

Anyway, with GIF being unusable for programmers who do not want to pay
for the pleasure, PNG may be the future.

There's a PNG site out there, but I haven't go the URL handy. Maybe
someone else.

I am not quite sure what the legal status of this is. If I were you, I'd
be careful with offers like these (both offering and accepting).
