Default dbm support

I still haven't found a clear answer on dbm support in php4.

I have dbm files created by perl scripts and I want to access them with php,
but I always get the "undefined function" message when trying to use the db
functions. I do not have a php_dbm.dll on my machine, it was not included
with the distribution and I couldn't find any specific details about it at
sleepy cat software's website. What gives?
