Default die killing my html

Hi, All--

I have been told that the reason my web page is not appearing properly is
the following:

"die( ... ) automatically halts execution, instead make a function for
yourself that echo's the msg, then finishes the pages, then die( ... )'s
with an empty error string and use that function."

I haven't learned how to do this yet...can anyone give me an example (or
just a hand)?

All My Best,
Jeffrey
