Default Why is this not valid SQL?

I can't figure it out, maybe one of you can please?

Here's the SQL:

UPDATE profiles SET addr='123 Fake Street', tel='01234 567 890',
email='me@privacy.net', text='[starttext]I am a Reader licensed to All
Saints, Catherington and St. James', Clanfield. I assist with the
[startlink=http://www.bcichurches.co.uk]Northern Cluster of
churches[endlink], which consists of Blendworth, Chalton, and Idsworth, and
am licensed to HMP Kingston as a Reader and Deputy Chaplain. I was appointed
Deputy warden in 2003 to assist [startlink=profiles.php?lloydd]Dennis
Lloyd[endlink] and [startlink=profiles.php?closem]Mary Close[endlink] is the
work of reader ministry on the mainland. I am also currently responsible for
[startlink=selection.php]Reader Selection[endlink]. In my secular role I am
Director of [startlink=http://www.beasolutions.com]BEA Solutions[endlink]
which offers a range of IT services, including Website design. We are
currently responsible for the design and maintenance of this website. My
company also provides Training and Personal Counselling.[endtext]', WHERE
ref='harrisone'

And here's the error:

You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'assist with the
[startlink=http://www.bcichurches.co.uk]Northern Cluster of chur' at line 1

I'm using MySQL.

Thanks very much!

Marc

Also, using "text" as a column name is inadvisable, since it's probably
a reserved word...
