Default Cannot pass parameters, missing global vars

Hi!

I've some strange problems here:

test1.php:
<?php
echo "the variable abc contains $abc\n";
?>

I call it with
http://domain.tld/test1.php?abc=1

No error occurs but the variable's content isn't shown.

test2.php
<?php
$location=$PHP_SELF;
echo "$location";
?>

I call it with
http://domain.tld/test2.php

No error occurs but also, there's no output.

In both cases it seems like the variables aren't defined at all.
Neither the parameter value is recognized nor the internal variable
$PHP_SELF seems to have any assigned value.

<?php phpinfo() ?> works and doesn't produce any obviously uncommon
output. Also, on the same server some predefined scripts (such as a
weblog and a forum) run very well.

I really don't get the point what's going wrong here. Could it be some
kind of misconfiguration? Or did I miss something important? I have to
admit that I'm not very experienced in PHP.

Maybe some kind soul can point me into the right direction.

Regards,
Ralf

Try

<?php
echo "the variable abc contains $_GET['abc']\n";
?>

Default Cannot pass parameters, missing global vars

Hello,

register_globals:
Local Value: off
Master Value: off

> Try
><?php
> echo "the variable abc contains $_GET['abc']\n";

This produces the following error:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE,
expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE or T_NUM_STRING in
/home/ralf/public_html/test1.php on line 2

But

echo ("the variable abc contains" . $_GET['abc'] . "\n");

works ok and delivers the desired result.

Then you need to use $_POST['varname'], $_GET['varname'] and $_POST
['varname']
But varname, not $varname... got it ?

Yes, but in this case the result is also 'empty' (ie not defined). And
what about $PHP_SELF?
