ODBC and PHP

I am trying to access an ODBC database, Myob (accounting software), when i
run a multitable query it seems to take forever with php; 4 minutes plus.
However when i link the same tables into an access database the same query
in access is almost instantaneous. Ive searched high and low for answers
but there doesnt seem to be any reason for it to be soo slow. I was hoping
to have a drop down box which listed all the active customers from the Cards
table, which would then bring up the address details.
