Default PHP & MySQL

I am getting ready to have to learn some PHP and MySQL. I already got a lot
programming and web development experience... this includes a lot of ASP.

Anyway, I am looking for a book(s) that will quickly get me up to speed on
PHP/MySQL. At my neighborhood Barnes&Noble, I found the following book, PHP
& MySQL Web Development. -- http://makeashorterlink.com/?M22536175 (an
Amazon listing).

Has anyone dealt with this book? Could I get your reviews/opinions? Are
there any books that are better? Should I go with separate PHP and MySQL
books.

Just wanted some opinions before I shelled out $50 for new computer
literature.

Thank ye,

~Dan

Read 'Getting Started' in the mySQL manual. Then do a few php tutorial
online (just search for php tutorial).

You learn as you use it....make a personal webpage for yourself.

I've been pleased with the O'Reilly book: Web Database Applications with
PHP & MySQL. Hugh E. Williams & David Lane, ISBN: 0-596-00041-3

Cheers,

Sam.

Nice book for beginners. Also take a look at 'Web Database
Applications with PHP & MySQL' at O'Reilly (available at amazon).

PHP and MySQL Web DEvelopment , by Luke Welling and Laura Thomson.

it teaches, from scratch, all you need to know about php and mysql/sql.

in the last chapters of the book you learn to build an: authentication
system, shopping cart, content management system, email service, mailing
list manager and web forums.

it is the best book i have seen about php.
