Default Can't set up phpBB

Looking to set up Bulletinboard for local pressure group with phpBB on my remotely hosted
server but can't complete the installation. Anyone got any experience I can benefit from?
the install/install.php keeps telling me Critical error - can't connect to database
I'm trying to use localhost:/users/username/domains/domain_name.co.uk/sql/mysql.sock to
try to connect but there's not a lot happening
TIA

I'm still trying to figure out how you're trying to connect. Make sure your
hosts file lists 127.0.0.1 as localhost and just do the connection to
localhost. Try "pstree" to make sure the mysql server is running. If you
want to set up multiple copies, just install to the different domains and
make a separate table in one database for everyone. Or make a separate
database for everyone.

Also, make sure you're trying to connect with the correct name and password
and that the database already exists. The tables are created automatically,
but the database itself is not.

Thanx for the response, Eric.
Is that on server port 80 (whatever *that* means)?
And what's the difference between the install/install.php file and the
contrib/dbinformer.php (apart from the brevity)?
Silly question, I think, but I suppose the database name *can* contain an underscore? -
like "garden_fence_db"?
Another silly question (guess who's new at all this....?) as my site is hosted remotely,
can I assume that mysqld would be running as standard? What difference does it make?
Yooors,

Iain.
