Default Character Length Limit in eregi?

Is there a length limitation on the string that can be searched with
"eregi"? I have some code that will return a match when the searched string
is less than about 12,000 characters. Any more than that, and it won't find
a match.

The match is meant to extract the BODY tag from an HTML file:

<body>(.*)</body>

(I know, this won't work if there are arguments in the BODY tag, but
consider it as written for now.)

The string I'm searching is the HTML of a Web page, so the the match will be
almost the entire string, since the <BODY> will be very near the beginning
of the string and the </BODY> will be very near the end.

Again, if the HTML is more than about 12,000 characters, no match comes
back. Less than this, and it's fine.

Deane
