OK, let's say you have a MySQL server at data.domain1.com and you want to enable the Web site at domain2.com to access database named 'webdata' located on that database server. First, log on to data.domain1.com as root and grant the access rights to the remote user connecting from domain2.com: GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE ON webdata.* TO USER remote_user@domain2.com INDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD 'remote_password'; (Adjust the rights as you see fit; if you want read-only access, use GRANT SELECT and leave INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETE out.) Then, you can access data.domain1.com from a PHP script running at domain2.com: mysql_connect ('data.domain1.com', 'remote_user', 'remote_password') or die ('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); mysql_select_db ('webdata') or die ('Could not select database: ' . mysql_error()); Note that some hosting companies filter traffic on MySQL ports (normally, this would be port 3306), so your PHP installation may not be able to connect in spite of the correct setup. Cheers, NC | |||
