| I would like to introduce everybody to the freshly released PEAR_Frontend_Web, version 0.7.0. (demo at http://tias.ulyssis.org/frontweb_demo/) Its a webbased frontend to the PEAR installer, but it is now even a lot more. It gives you the power of PEAR as a package manager in a comprehensible, clear and user friendly way. It's the ideal solution for anybody that manages PEAR packages on a webserver. Some of its great features are: * Webbased: no remote shell access needed. Even for the initial installation you can use go-pear's webfrontend. * Fully channel aware: no default channel, all channels are managed at the same time. This offers a much more intuitive way of working for all those that use multiple channels. * Unique docviewer: After installing a package you can quickly and easely read the documentation that came with it. * Plus all features of the PEAR Installer, including features that are not yet in PEAR itself, like 'list-categories'. This package changes the way PEAR is used and opens the way for PEAR as a full blown package management system. A system where channels are true web-software repositories and where libraries as well as entire webapplications are installed and managed with the same ease. Congratulations Tias, I'm very glad to see the progress on this front, keep up the good work. Let's butt our heads together on improvements to REST now, as PEAR 1.6.0 is due in less than 2 weeks - time is short for changes, so let's do this Greg | |||
