| I would like to have the ability to query a database and then send the results as an email attachment in either CSV or Excel (XLS) format. I know that there are "canned" software packages for this. Has any one had good experiences with any of these products? I've searched most of the MySQL and PHP sites, but there aren't any useable scripts or too much information about the available programs. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Joe G. Dearborn, MI | |||

| I sometimes use VBS scripts to do this sort of thing. It doen't take much as long as you know the SQL, the VBScript is easy enough. You also, need the Mysql odbc driver, I downloaed one from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/. This example code, uses odbc to connect to mysql, establish an adodb recordset, and loop through a table one record at a time, displaying three collumns separated by commas. For this to work, you must either run the mysqlextract.vbs by typeing : cscript mysqlextract.vbs or by setting wscript to default to console output instead of window output. by typing : wscript //h:cscript if you do it this way, everytime you execute a vb script it will default to console output instead of windows output, so all you have to type to run the script is : mysqlextract '***** code sample - same as attached file ****** set db = wscript.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") db.Open("Driver={MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver};Server=localhost;Database=Inventory;UID=ro ot;PWD=dalcom") set rs=wscript.CreateObject("ADODB.recordset") rs.open "SELECT * FROM inventory.hardware", db rs.MoveFirst Do Until rs.EOF wscript.echo rs.fields("SN") & "," & rs.fields("ComputerName") & "," & rs.fields("IPAddress") rs.MoveNext Loop '***** code sample ****** Alternatively, once you have the odbc drivers isntalled, you could very easily link Access to the tables, or make a query , and use access to extract the table or query to csv format.
