| I set up a user and database without tables (a NEW user) then as a test, I start up mysql, select the new users' database and issue: show tables; the system responds with all the tables from the "mysql" database. if I try to "use" these tables, I get error messages and don't actually have access to the table structure. Can someone help me out on this? Thanks Jim | |||

You can DESCRIBE tables, though. If you have a database named users (check with 'SHOW DATABASES;') you can type 'USE users;' and then 'SHOW TABLES;' and 'DESCRIBE tablename;' I Hope this helps! ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =----

I got the words wrong, but the concept is that mysql seems to be mirroring the tables of the mysql database for users which presently have NO tables defined within their database. Any ideas?

I just created a new user called "fakename" in my mysql installation with the command "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'fakename'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'fakename';". I logged in as root and did the following: > CREATE DATABASE fakename; > USE fakename; > SHOW TABLES; -It gave me "Empty set (0.00 sec)" as expected. I then logged in as fakename and did the following: > USE fakename; > SHOW TABLES; -It game me "Empty set (0.00 sec)" as expected. I can't seem to reproduce your behavior. Sorry. You may want to restart the machine and try again just to rule out the remote chance that there's some weirdness there. After you've reproduced it, double checking your steps, you could try the forums and mysql.com. Best of luck! ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Uncensored-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =----
