Default ASP vs PHP?

Well, i know there is a big thing what is the best to go with?

I was wondering what you guys thought?

After reading about, sites have stated that PHP loads much faster than ASP and functions better?

What is the truth?

What you learn all depends on the work you want to do in the future... If this is just a hobby then PHP because it's free.. however ASP is definately not old and it's definately here to stay.. ASP is extremely powerful and it's what most large corporations use and what most high level software uses... PHP is like Linux.. everyone runs servers with it... ASP is just like Microsoft (being that it's a Microsoft product)... it's found in enterprises and enterprise solutions... being that you can use both VB and C# in ASP it's made that much more powerful... If you want a career in web design at any sort of corporate level or with a company that's decently sized... then ASP is going to be the way to go.. If you want to be an independant web designer or are looking for a hobby, then PHP is the way to go.

for me, php is much easier to learn compared to php other than that, the major advantage for me is PHP = FREE. PHP uses MySQL, which is also FREE. ASP is for windows, which costs $ and it uses mssql, which also costs $, unless you are getting a pirated version, in which you may not consider the price

Also to add to this I find that there are lots of resources on the internet for php and not many for asp.

ASP may be for Windows, however you can get an asp "implementation" for apache... Additionally both PHP and ASP will work with MySQL, PosgreSQL, MS SQL and Oracle... there's nothing stating that each one is tied together... PHP+MySQL is just the most common scenerio..

MadKad: There are plenty of ASP sites out there... it doesn't take a lot of effort to find them either... Google Results for PHP 4.9 Billion, ASP 2.95 Billion... Sure there's a difference... but at that point it doesn't really matter.. You won't go past the first hundred or maybe thousand results... Consider that in general more people use PHP so that's why there's more mention of it... but that doesn't mean that the available resources are better.

While I don't have much experience with asp myself, I think Carol's assesment of it is fairly accurate. Most corporations will be using asp over php so if you're wanting a job in the corporate environment, you may want to learn asp.

As far as preference and functionality - I'm a PHP guy. I can do alot with PHP. Not that I couldn't do with asp, but the learning curve and expenses involved with asp aren't within my timeframe and budget. I don't pirate software.

PHP for me was easy to pick up and start building stuff with it.
I agree with Frike on these statements "fast, open source, many functions, more support, more code snippets - php has everything!" (some alterations).

Do what you feel comfortable with. They'll both do the same thing in my opinion.

Both languages have their advantages specific to users. Some would argue that both the languages have their own importance and depending on the user's requirements the language and the platform can be chosen. If we talk about developing a discussion board then ASP is equally capable but many feel the best discussion boards are developed in PHP. If a user is looking for some e-commerce application development then many would call ASP the ideal choice. This does not mean that PHP cannot provide e-commerce solutions, only that many people choose ASP.

From my perspective, PHP is an all around better choice than ASP.
