    Default Domains .com .net .co.uk

How important do you think the end of a domain name is to porential readers? .com is always the one people go for. Do you think any less of a site if it has a .net or .co.uk extension for example? Are there any other pros and cons of the different extensions?

For example I do worry that the US market (which makes up a massive part of the online community) would be less likely to visit your site if it had a .co.uk extension which gives a large disadvantage to anyone using one.

It can matter, if you are a seller say in the uk and dont sell out of the uk then you would want to go for the domain .co.uk the reason is that people will select uk only when searching, but people do search in say google.com more as well and you will find that .co.uk dont come up the same as .com domains so could involve more work on the marketing and linking side if you want them to show for some results

Personally I prefer .net because it looks nicer. But when I am searching for some kind of product for my car or something im more likely to go to a site with a .au ending as I know its in Australia, sites without the country code on the URL are a bit iffy because you arent sure where they are from.

Yes I think alot of people go for domains with there country, but the truble is alot of site owners go for .com as they are a more used domain and was the more costly one untill they brought out the .eu domain

That's a fair point Apocalypsse. If I'm looking to spend money online I would be much more likely to choose a local company with a .co.uk.

I think non commercial sites are better off with .com though (even though it's supposed to stand for Company).
