Blogging, why bother?

Blogging has become a massive pass-time for a lot of people. But really whats the point? Why does half the internets population think their personal life is really so interesting that the world needs to hear about it? I'm probably being synical but I just don't see the point in it. What do you blog about?

On a side note has anyone managed to use blogging as a succesful way of promoting a website?

I dont blog about anything, not my way of doing things. But the whole blogging thing could be a way for people to relax, some kind of therapy for them venting their feelings to the online community. Or people just want to show off their lives to others.

I find blogs about infomation are good but I have never and dont think ever will read about peoples personal, aslo I like to blog about infomation but not my own life

Bloging about website infomation can lead to a good promotion as well for your website if it is done correctly.

The web is full of useless blogs. There are some useful blogs such as matt cutts of google and the maker of IPBs blog which offer some useful info and early info updates.

Some people are actually getting paid to write blogs. Some also earn by Adsense placed on their blog pages. Writing about the right stuff, like MadKad pointed out, will entice readers and in the process earn you money.

Well I was blogging long before it was blogging. I started just to try to get people coming back to my site. Then a ton of things like blogger, xanga, livejournal started popping up all over the place to it kind of lost it touch. However I keep blogging now to keep family and friends updated with whats going on. There are some people that I don't really keep that good of touch with and its easy for them to pop in and see whats been going on.

Blogger is something between a forum and an ordinary site. Visitors can put comments on written articles, you can invite them and they put in their own articles. They are collection of info. They are listed in Google like any other site.
