Default odd pricing

Do you think that odd pricing (also called psychological pricing) really
works. That is, $9.99 seems a better deal than $10.

I personally -- as a consumer -- would prefer the $10 as it seems more
honest. And, these days, it might attract attention for being odd since it
seems many prices are pychological...

The problem is that Robert is not typical. Like myself, Robert
tends to think. The typical person uses emotion to buy, and
thought hardly ever enters the picture. When someone lists
a gas price at $1.879, thinking people read this as $1.88, while
emotional people see it as $1.87.

You are right. And it appears that there are some studies out there that
indicate that odd pricing does work.

How do you mean? I would think that price -- regardless of pricing level or
tactics -- does not increase product value.

Price is sort of a necessary evil. :-)

Money - Ration tickets that we have all agreed have value.

RE: Price does not affect product value

Sure it does.

A Harvard education which costs me 150,000.00 is a better value than the
same education for 300,000.00.

The 150,000.00 education came with a savings of 150 grand that I used to
open my business firm. Store and Education for 300,000 or education
alone...

Which is the better value?

One painting comes with a perfect frame and the other does not and will
need one. Which is the better value? This cannot be determined without
the prices of both offers being known.

Value = Perceived Total Benefit - Total Cost (including price).
