Default Target Markets to focus on

Hi all.

I am going to start a computer service business and have a question
thats been bothering me for a while. Sorry if this is really basic.

I figured at first instead of targeting everyone who can buy my
product, I will focus on people who are more likely to buy it(therfore
not wasting as much marketing resources).

I have compiled a list from StatsCanada of industries that can buy my
products. The problem I'm having is that there are two ends, One end
are succesful businesses that have 30% profit earnings in their
industry, and the other industries who are really low.

My question, Who would you target? A succesful business or a business
that is not making as much profits as the others?

At first I thought a succesful business would be better, they have more
money to spend, but then I thought, "if their succesful, why would they
want anything to change?" but a business with really low profits may
have less to spend but they want to grow and almost desperately want to
succed and may buy more easly if they think it will help them succeed.

Like, a guy with hair will not buy hairloss spray, an balding person
is more likely..why? because they already sense a problem.

Thats my logic, but i'm not a marketing professional and have no
experince. I would be very greatful for any advice I can have for this
stupid question.

Thanks in Advance

Take Care

Gautam

First, I think we need some clarification. You say you're going into a
service business, but then you talk about products. Which is it? Product or
service? Not that it can't be both, but you have to decide how to position
yourself in the market. Are you a service, who can also enhance their
productivity with some unique products, or are you selling a productivity
product and offering installation/support for the product.?

Thanks for your reply GSBatchelor,

We are selling computers and support services. There are many hardware
sellers so I think we will focus on services and hardware will be
secondary.

We are basically thinking of marketing ourselfs and reliable and
quality service providers that can enchance their productivity by
allowing them to focus on their core business needs and leave IT to us.

We offer many many IT services, and the ones that need special hardware
we can also sell.

so in a nutshell we're basically both but with a focus on the service
area.

How familiar are you with the current Canadian market for the computer
service industry? It's pretty tough to make money in this area.
