| I am interested in starting an Avon-like operation. Samples, brochures etc but a bit more upscale, better gifts and new ideas. The only problem here is that I can only take on a minimum of paperwork which means I hardly have any sales tax calculations to make since my retail sales are very small. My idea is to charge a small membership fee for merchandise and mailings, circulate brochures and samples and only have sales associates located outside of NYS, leaving them responsible for collecting and paying sales tax in their own states. What is my obligation to the IRS at this point? If I am selling wholesale, to sales associates do I have to: - provide some kind of a statement stating any earnings for the year; - have their s.s. on file; - have them sign an 'acknowledgement letter' stating that their respons. is to report any earnings and local sales tax. Your help is appreciated. Harriet Cohen Paper & Images, cards, gifts, photographs http://paperandimages.home.att.net | |||

No way around this even in swap meets. > > > > | |||
