Default Affiliate Programs

I'm in the process of putting my web page back up. I'm thinking, what the
hell, might as well add some affiliate-type links. One link I want to
include is for the Zone Alarm folks, who have an affiliate program through
cj.com. My first question is whether any of you folks have dealt with these
guys, and if so, how has your experience been?

I have some broad questions, too. Such as, with which affiliate programs
have you worked, and how did they work out?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,
I don't have any personal comments about Zone Alarm, but I have tried many
affiliate programs. None have ever worked well for me.

About 6 months ago I added google links to one of my pages
(http://www.ElPasoInfo.com) and it has steadily paid me $100 a month.
Google puts links that are directly related to the content on your pages.
You can also tell google what links you do not want on your page (like
competitors). More info: https://www.google.com/adsense/

Here is another thing to consider with banner ads and links off your site.
You have spent time, money and effort to attract a person to visit your
site. Do you really want to send them off to another site before they have
had a chance to fully explore your site? You might want affiliate links only
on your links page so it does not interfere with your visitors viewing of
your site.

Good Luck,
Dave

Hi Dave,

What I'm thinking is that I go out to client locations, and those locations
often need software. I recommend Zone Alarm a lot, for example. So, I go out
to the zone alarm page & download the s/w with their credit card. However,
Zone Labs has an affiliate program, (as do a lot of other places to which I
refer business). So.... what the hell. If I have the customer link to
zonelabs.com through my web page, its ten bucks to me. Also, it will give me
one web page that's a little different than everything else to kind of
experiment with. In fact, I don't even have to link to that page from
anywhere on my site. I can let the page stand on its own, or create a little
subweb if things go well.

That's pretty damn good business, actually, unless you have to put in hours
of work each month to keep it up to date.

I was thinking about this in the light of giving existing customers a place
to buy some of the things I recommend to them, without my having to get into
the business of selling off-the-shelf products.

Doing a content-type page, where people go to get a certain information or
to read my articles is something that I've thought about doing for a long
time. I'm thinking with something like that, you want them to click away
because that's how you make your money, and if you're able to provide a
valuable resource to these folks, they'll come back. But... one thing at a
time...

Mike

Yeah, if your recommending Alarm Zone, or any other product, put them on you
site for sure. You might as well get the commission.

It took me about 10 minutes to set up the google ads and maybe 1/2 hous
adding it to my pages. That has been the only work I have put into the
google ads. Google "reads" your page and puts related links on that page
automatically.

Maybe add a "Buyers Guide section with links (both affiliated and non
affilated) to items you think your clients need

Yeah, content pages are great for the search engines. And if you put the
google ads on them...you'll generate some additional revenue.

Good Luck,
Dave

According to your website's stats, you get only about 3,000 visitors per
month. Are you really making $100 a month out of only 3,000 visitors with
Google Ads? That sounds like every single visitor you get actually clicks on
one of these ads. I get over 60,000 visitors per month, and out of a similar
service that actually pays higher than Google I'm only making $150-$200/mo.
