| We are planning to start a new business in the next few months, thus we will be looking for someone to fill this role. We have already received one funding offer and are expecting to receive more, thus we are guardedly optimistic about getting this going "for real". Any recommendations about *free* web sites that will allow us to start looking now (before we have the start-up cash to spend)? I tried elance.com, thinking this could be done via contract as a test to find someone--and they never contacted me after I submitted the proposal (which is what they said they would do). The business will be located in Las Vegas, NV (ok, quit drooling <g>!!). We will make and sell a physical product, and the nature of our marketing and sales is B2B, not B2C (this is not a consumer item). Thus, the position may not require relocation--remote work is possible (for the right person). Regards, Jerry | |||

| There are a number of job posting sites. Best bet is to run a search on an engine (yahoo.com, google.com etc). You can also try sites such as monster.com and hotjobs.com. We don't exist as a business (yet), thus no memberships anywhere. Thus, no freebies available (and the assocation is NOT free). That is why I am looking. Regards, Jerry | |||

Obviously, you have not seen the new Monster Networking. They lost the vast majority of knowledgeable, no-cost, real-world contributors in the changeover to the fee-based system. Furthermore, most users did NOT sign up for the pay service, even when it was initially offered at $2.99/month. There was no perceived value in it at any price (except free). The new Networking consists of a very few reasonable posts, with many "business" opportunities posted. The general consensus is this is a not-very-well-thought-out revenue-generating attempt by Monster. It seems rather stupid to try to charge an unemployed person $10/month so they can make contact and ask/answer questions with others in the same situation while they look for a job. | "Gerald Abrahamson" <jerryab@visi.com> wrote: > The business will be located in Las Vegas, NV (ok, > quit drooling <g>!!). Don't worry I'm not ... nor will any good marketer. Good marketers are drawn to good businesses, not locations. Anyway, as far as getting you a good marketer... Personally, I'd never hire someone that was looking for a job as a marketing manager. Marketers really should never be out of work or be out looking for a better deal. They are always being approached so there's little need to go looking. What you should be looking for is a currently-employed marketer that's damn smart and which you can tempt away from their current employer. Or a full-time marketing consultant that would be up for a change of pace. Being in your industry is a plus, but not really necessary. You want someone that understands marketing at an intuitive level. And, truth be told, those who do not are unemployed. However... Good marketers don't come cheap. Get that funding in hand before going after a marketer. Once you have the money, the good marketers will take you seriously. If you need a marketer onboard to get the funding, you'll need to promise a lot more (salary, stock, and stock options) to get them to use their name to raise the funding. Any venture capitalist with a single active brain cell will want to interview your marketer since the business will be heavily dependent on their abilities to make it a success. As for where to find the good marketers, network! Go to the meetings of your local business association. Play poker at the country club. Talk to everyone and anyone you know. Ask business people you know who they think are good marketers that might be interested in your venture. Heck, try to sweet talk one of the marketing pros that hang out here. Just realize that marketers can spot hot air before it even rises. Being marketers, they're expert hot air makers. So be real honest with them and you'll win points. Good luck!
