| Hi, We have a product that we are trying to market to the youth sports industry. We already have all the contacts but we are having a problem coming up with a catchy pitch that will get them excited to look at our offer. Our products is a web site builder / manager like no other with many plug and play modules and easy web editing. As we know this market is competitive and we are just wondering what is the push buttons that trigger the buyers interest? What type of Title, Slogan etc. How much text. Should we focus on benefits, differences or what? I appreciate any advice. Thanks, Craig | |||

| I would think that you should take a look at your competition to see what they're doing. Also, people buy because of the benefits more than features so this should be played up. What makes your product better than the competition? Why is yours easier to use? What can yours do for me that the others can't? We already have all the contacts but we are having a problem > > coming up with a catchy pitch that will get them excited to look at > > our offer. First off, you need to have an in-depth knowledge of the "youth sports" market, both retailers and consumers...for retailers, will this product need to be demonstrated? If so, you'll have to train personnel in these stores, so you'll need to focus in on those that can best represent your product. For consumers...what are they looking for, e.g. the benefit that they hope to derive. What percentage of the youth sports market wants this benefit over others...how much more--in other words, are they willing to pay for it (Ford surveyed hundreds of consumers asking them for ideas on how to improve the Explorer, they added dozens of cupholders, etc..., and upped the price by a couple thousand dollars, only to find out most people weren't willing to pay extra for them). > > Our products is a web site builder / manager like no other with many > > plug and play modules and easy web editing. Doesn't sound like "youth sports" as much as software.... > > As we know this market is competitive and we are just wondering what > > is the push buttons that trigger the buyers interest? Easiest is to ask them, e.g. "do you prefer Feature A/Benefit A over Feature B/Benefit B" and "if you had a choice of this Product without this feature at this price or this Product with this feature at this (higher) price, which would you choose?" You'll need to phrase it as choices, because most people will tell you that they want all the bells and whistles at the same price or lower than other products. > > What type of Title, Slogan etc. Best to test, if possible...if you are dealing with teenagers, you need to cater all aspects of communication towards them--words they can understand, that they use, that they'll relate to, etc.... > How much text. Depends on the product...if your product's main feature is kick-ass graphics, it would be best to show those; if its something that is complicated, you'll need more text. > Should we focus on > > benefits, differences or what? Both...if you can keep it simple to understand in about 10-15 seconds, max. > > I appreciate any advice. > > > > Thanks, > > > > Craig Hope this helps a bit. Dave | |||

| Hi Craig, There is a rule in the Web Marketing and it is: "In order to have a successful Web business you have to attract more and more prospects to come to your Website to buy your products/services and make these already clients to come again and again and buy more and more" My advice is to get more deeply into the problem. To help solve it down I would suggest the following: 1. The first thing you must do is some basic Market Research. Define your target market and pinpoint your customers. Find out in this target category, just how many people there are interested in your product or service and would be willing to stand in line and pay money for it. The more precise and detailed your plan is, the easier it is going to be for you to attain the desired success. 2. Your website should be "Direct Response Web Site" or said in other words it should be Clear, Direct, Passionate and to the Point! It shoud also open in the browser for not more than 8-10 seconds. There are millions of sites that are so clogged up and confusing people. The result from visiting such sites is: prospects leave soon after they get there. You need to be specific as well, clear and to the point. Your prospects should know exactly what you have, your offer and the incredible benefits they'll recieve within the first one or two pages of your site! So, you should focus prospects' attention as much as possible on your Website product or service. 3. Pay special attention to the length and the content of: "Title" (max. 60 symbols), "Description"(max. 150 symbols) and "Keywords"(max. 250-870 symbols depending on the SE) Meta Tags in the [Head] sector of your Website. They should comply with the requirements of the Search Engines. Do Not Spam the Search Engines to avoid serious negative consequences. 4. Consider Website automatization (Scripts, Autoresponders, List-Servers, Safe-Lists) and optimization (SEO) and make sure your Website is 100% ready before submitting it to the Search Engines. 5. Use SSI (Server Side Includes) in order to help gain top position in the Search Engines listings. 6. Define your USP (Unique Selling Position) and your Profit Potential. 7. Prepare a "killer" Sales Letter to make prospects not able to sustain to buy your product or service. Most people online Do Not just browse the web, they go online looking for something specific, something that will help them achieve whatever they are doing at the time. Therefore, eliminate all or anything that could confuse your prospects - make what you offer 100% clear. 8. Arrange for Credit Card Payment System on your Website. 9. Prepare your own Affiliate Program. 10. Submit your Website only to few of the Top 10 Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, ExactSeek, AltaVista, etc. (despite, not all of them are SE - there are SE, Meta Crowlers, Indexes, Directories etc.). You may submit it to all of them, but it will take more time and money. Assuming that only the Top 10 SE comprise about 95% af all Websites in the World Wide Web and they could ensure up to 80% of the traffic to your Website it is useless to waste your time to submit it to others. Also do not use automated submission, because most SE consider it SPAM. 11. Use PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Search Engines 12. Create your own "Opt-In Mailing List" 13. Publish your Bulletin, Newsletter or Ezine. 14. Create your Guest Book, Bulletin-Board, Discussion Board, FFA Pages. 15. Use Sig-File at the end of all your Email correspondence. 16. Apply marketing strategies, tactics and techniques used successfully by other Webpreneurs. 17. Consider selling of "Base", "Back-End" and "High-End" products/services. 18. Create Joint Ventures 19. Participate in or create your own Virtual Auctions. 20. Allow for "Give-Aways". Do remember that the most used word in the Internet is "FREE". 21. Promote your Website 22. Advertise, Advertise, Advertise ..... ..... This is the only way to make sales and have a successful business online! Despite this is only a small portion of what you can do more to sell products and services in the Internet, I hope to be helpful to you with this information. I wish you Success and Good luck! It is my understanding that the search engine just sees the page as it is served up and doesn't know if it was generated with a SSI or not. How would you use a SSI to gain top position? | Hi John, Web Marketers and SEs are in permanent struggle in the same way like the hackers and the security software developers. Web Marketers are looking constantly for new methods to gain top positions but SE's Staff doesn't like that most often the same Websites appear on the first page. That is why they change their algorithms and/or criteria. Nevertheless, Web Marketers are always one step ahead. Your Email address makes me think that you are somehow connected with the Yahoo Staff and this is the reason why I cannot tell you about this secret, I'm sorry. I would if I could, but I can't. Anyway using SSI is not a sole technic, there are a lot of other ways which help gain top position. One of them is using so called Lead Pages. Best regards and good luck! It will show and manifest in your business. If your potential customers pick up on your passion and knowledge about your business they are more likely to trust you and buy. How would you use a SSI to gain top position? > Well, you can, but if you get caught you will get dropped from Google. You can use what is called XSSI to include content specifically for various search engine spiders. http://www.bignosebird.com/sdocs/extend.shtml Since most spiders don't identify themselves as mozilla or MSIE than including extra text loaded with keywords for those spiders will present a different page for them. The spider doesn't know this. e.g. Looking at my access log I see crawler10.googlebot.com - - [24/Jun/2004:08:27:52 -0500] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.0" 200 188 "-" "Googlebot/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)" I think I could use the <!--#if expr="${HTTP_USER_AGENT} != /Googlebot/" --> to include content just for Google. If caught, you will be banned from Google. -- McWebber No email replies read If someone tells you to forward an email to all your friends please forget that I'm your friend. | |||

I would if I could, but I can't. There must be millions of people with an @Yahoo.com email address. It's just silly to conclude I'm connected with Yahoo staff based on this. Surely you are aware that yahoo offers email accounts. Anyway, McWebber has answered my question (thank you). The big secret appears to be changing the contents served up based on the user agent requesting it. Now I understand how you could *attempt* to influence search engine placement using SSI. LOL, I get email to my @yahoo.com address because it sounds like it might be connected to their web site business from people asking all kinds of questions about their account. One even sent me their user name and password. Today one asked why Yahoo was hosting www.kkk.com. BTW, official Yahoo addresses end @yahoo-inc.com. -- McWebber "Richter points to the lack of legal action against his company as proof that he's operating appropriately."
