| Hello Vic, I suggest you not rely on direct mail (I'll assume you want to do a mailing since you mention hoping for a about a 2% response rate) to do the marketing work for you. You post does not convince me that there are people out there who are willing to pay for your service. I suggest you spend the money to prepare some excellent printed collateral and start doing some serious prospecting for business. Should you find that people are receptive to your service (by actually subscribing) then you will be in a good position to use direct mail as part of your prospecting effort. As an added benefit, you will have a very clear picture as to who are the actual purchasers of the service and who are the influentials who impact the buy decision. A few suggestions. -- J.P. | Yes, you're right - my service doesn't have any customers yet. What I'm trying to do is test the idea by trying to sell it. Just to see if anybody wants it. My first thought was to try to drive the test with telemarketing. I thought I would just sit down at the phone and start calling the companies on my list. But my full-time job keeps getting in the way. I need at least 8 hours a week on the phone, and I'm having trouble getting more than a couple of hours a week. I started considering direct mail when I read those books. Its an attractive alternative to telemarketing because I can use weekends to work on it. I guess you're right. I'll learn a lot more by talking to these guys on the phone. I'll just have to go slower. I'm impatient. Thanks for your help. Vic Mangogna | |||
