| Greeting Marketeers, I have a website to sell my product ( www.jagrc.com ). We produce and sell a Nitrous Oxide system for radio controlled vehicles. We are getting 200,000 hits per month. (a lot of return visits). Why are our sales so very low from this site? It's possible people are afraid of blowing up their engines. In all our testing, we have not had an engine failure that is attributable to N2O. I don't know much about marketing (only instinctive thoughts) so I would appreciate any thoughts you may have. Thanks in advance for your help Glen Ray grayco4 at comcast.net | |||

| I dont want to sound too critical but your site needs overhaul. colors and layout are mediocre logo looks amateurish color bar moving and changing is distracting the layout isnt sales oriented video download was way too slow moving menus on left side is annoying so in summary pay a professional to get it done right my recommendations to at least minimize the damage use white background stop all the moving action create and use new logo stories sell and facts tell sell credibility On the web, you are either a follower or leader. either everyone wants to link back to your site because you are the bomb diggity or you are a follower. Not sure if you wanted the good bad and the ugly but I give and recieve well. | Your site is not selling because: 1. Not rich in benefit to the reader. 2. First thing you do is send the reader to watch a video. Not very effective. They come to buy and you push them off your sales pages? 3. Are they really buying nitrous oxide? No, they are buying the fun of racing. Your copy needs a total overhall. The internet is not about hits. It's about money in your pocket. Dr. Kilstein www.overnight-copy.com | |||

| Thanks for your response. I appreciate your critical view. Could you help me understand some things? Colors: What role do colors play? Why is a white background better than a pleasant fading blue? Layout: Can you give me examples of good layouts? I really can't tell where my layout is failing. How can I make it more sales oriented? Logos: What elements should a good logo have? (Yes mine is pretty poor) Motion: Why is motion a bad thing? Don't you need activity to keep interest up? Videos: How can I use videos to enhance sales instead of distracting customers from sales? How can I improve video download time? Stories: "Stories sell, facts tell" Do you mean I should get testimonies from customers and focus on them instead of videos and forums? Credibility: How can we improve credibility over the internet? We've been completely honest and our product is great. In Summary. I really want to be a "Bomb Diggity". I don't want to be a sheep following everyone else. Thanks again for your comments. | I thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. Could you help me understand a few things? We have a lot of information on our site. Most of it is in the forum. Is there a better way to use information to benefit our readers? What other things can we do to enrichen the benefit s to our readers. How do you balance tech info and the sales page? How can we use the videos to enhance sales instead of distracting the customer from the sales page? Your third comment makes me think I need to sell the fun of racing and not Nitrous Oxide Kits. That sounds good. Can you recommend any sites that have sucsesfully acheived this sort of focus? Thanks again for the time and thought you've given me. Make the forum a bonus for people who buy. >How can we use the videos to enhance sales instead of distracting the >customer from the sales page? First, the videos are poor. The music is worse. And the captions and titles are just amateurish. You can do better by yourself. Did you ever hear of video editing? It's very easy to do.... You can do it yourself. > >Your third comment makes me think I need to sell the fun of racing and not >Nitrous Oxide Kits. That sounds good. Can you recommend any sites that >have sucsesfully acheived this sort of focus? Take a look at www.acnesecrets.com What are they really selling? Read it carefully and look at the pictures! or www.ru-21.cc What are they selling? There are some really good basic books on web design for beginners. Get Dan Kennedy's NO Sales Letter Book and go fix your site. You can do this. It's not rocket science. Now, come back in a week and let us know you changed it! | Jag, Redo your website and while doing it repeat these words to yourself: "People don't by features they buy benefits and solutions" Just like Dr. Kilstein stated they are buying fun, not NO. You need to read the articles at http://www.marketingsurvivalkit.com/article-index.htm After you do that see how the writer of these articles took all of their strategies and used them to market his product by reading his website at at: http://www.instantsalesletters.com/ [Bottom-quoting deleted. Please do this, folks, so us modertors don't have to. Thanks. stj] | |||

| also, it's OWNERS' MANUAL and not OWNERS MANUAL as it's the manual belonging to more than one owner bad grammar and spelling on a comercial website is one sure fire way to make yourselves look unprofessional | |||

| amazon.com, ibm, etc. I recommend visiting www.webbyawards.com and getting a pen and paper and diagraming out, reading the source code on any number of these sites. After spending 8-10 hrs studying their color schemes, metaphors they communicate structure, download speeds, color combination, what they include and dont include in the site itself, etc, you will have a good flavor for your site. Good luck.!!
