| I just signed on to sell a 4.9 cent a minute long distance service. Can anyone give me some tips on how to market the service online? I am looking for a good banner exchange program to sign up with, plus any other ideas. I refuse to do spam mail however. I can't stand them so I don't want to be one. Thanks, Frederick -- 4.9 cent/minute long distance http://www.accxx123.com/index.cfm?id=2127762011&p=18 Shop from the comfort of your own home E-mail: fjclaus@avon.net Put 'Avon' in subject line | |||

Fred, you are an entrepreneur at heart! You've posted four or five times with different business concepts over the past few months (in this group and the others). How about working backwards. What do you want to get out of a business and what resources do you have to put into a business? What kinds of things do you like to do? Is there an idea you've had for a long time that you want to start, but are afraid that the idea isn't good enough or that you don't have the resources? Maybe we can brainstorm towards finding something that's a good fit for you, so that you can focus on building a business rather then putting so much time into finding one. Just a thought. | Well, actually I am a professional Photographer. I own a commercial photography company that has been in business in Western New York since 1972. However My wife heard from a friend of hers in Avon that there was this long distance company that was a great company to sell for. Since it was free we decided to try it. Now we are just looking for ways to get that off the ground. This is not a get rich quick thing, just something to bring in extra money and help supliment the photography. I pay ...03/minute, but it may be that state to state calling is more expensive than international, I don't know. My thought about phone cards is that they are penny anti. A few cents here, a dollar or two there. You'd have to sell gazilions of the damn things to make any money. Also, be careful about getting sucked into some network marketing mess. Go to http://www.ftc.gov and click search. Then search for Phone Cards and see what they have to say. Then search for Network Marketing and read up on that. There are a lot of scams out there. > This is not a get rich quick thing, just something to bring in extra money > and help supliment the photography. The trick to any business is creating a system and managing the system, as opposed to being the system yourself. Have you taken any steps towards creating systems in your business that, for example, other people can run instead of you? Mike | |||

| Fredrick, Just a quick note. I went to buy an international phone card today, to call my customer out in Italy, so I took a look at what it costs to get a phone card to call somebody here in the U.S. The cost is 1.9 cents/minute with no connect charges. ( http://www.crowntelecom.com/MCI_Long_Distance.htm ) Other than the fact that I have been buying cards from this place for a year or so, I don't have any relationship with their business. However, if you want to sell phone cards, you might consider using these guys as a supplier, or looking for somebody else from whom to buy your cards. That 4.9/minute looks kind of steep. Another thought on my mind is that people pay a lot of money for these coast-to-coast cell phone calling plans. You may be able to offer these people a cheaper alternative by telling them to change to a local calling plan and then use your phone cards to call out of state. Just a thought.
