| I recently came across this guy from a finance company. This finance compnay provides finance for companies thta need capital in access of $100 M. And since then he is after me to start doing the paperwork, as I showed some interest in getting funding. I have a few projects in mind that I think would need money to that magnitude but before I do some serious work on this I need to know how real is this proposal. Has anyone else here come across companies this ?? please advise Thanks, Nitin | |||

Don't discount such feelings. The simplest thing is to thoroughly check them out. 1) Call up the Better Business Bureau and see if they've been reported. Note that if they're not listed by BBB doesn't mean that they're not scam artists. It only means they haven't been reported yet. 2) Ask for references and call them. Be careful though. If they're a good scam artist, they'll have fake references ... even of prestigious businesses. Let's say one of their references works for prestigious company and they have a phone number for you to call. Don't call it. Instead get out your yellow pages (or, if it isn't a local business, Yahoo's yellow pages) and call up their front desk then ask if the person works for them and then get passed through to them. 3) Visit their place of business. If they've got this kind of money to toss around, their business should look it. However, again, good scam artists can fake this too. Simple way to check this out is simply asking other businesses in that building that doesn't look connected to them at all. Or if they take up an entire building, go to a neighboring building and ask them. Simply ask how long that business has been around there. 4) Hire a lawyer to do a check on them. Most lawyers have at least one private detective that works for them. He can also do a credit and criminal check on them for you.
