It's for the Google Adwords program. There are better ways to make money off of Google if you have a specialized product, like the products the gentleman who started this thread is trying to sell. The Google Adwords program is valuable for companies with stiff competition. For instance, if you're selling computer monitors. There are a zillion places on the Web to purchase computer monitors, and chances are you're not gonna get listed in the top 10 search results unless you're a major player. The Adwords program levels the playing field for everyone, provided you're willing to pay for it. Bruce has a specialized product. I don't think he needs to spend money on the Adwords program. If he does some good research, he can take advantage of Google's enormous traffic (as well as the rest of the search engines) without having to "pay per click." Does Bruce really want to pay for click-thrus when people search for "GPS"? Probably not, since thousands of people search on that each day, and of that I'll wager that only a handful are actually looking for the type of solutions Bruce provides. Meanwhile, he's stuck paying for all the junk click-thrus. Bruce, I'd also recommend that you take the plunge and register your site in the proper Yahoo! directory. It is relatively expensive, costing a few hundred bucks. However, Yahoo! will be your second largest traffic source, and should boost your ranking in Google's search results. (There is some controversy about this.) You also need to get listed on dmoz.org. There is no controversy about that - everyone agrees that Google gives higher ranking to sites listed on dmoz. Dmoz.org is free.

I wonder what the CTR is for the top listed adwords vs. the top listed search results. I have some sites that show up #1 in Google search results and some competitors buying adwords that show up on the same page. -- McWebber No email replies read If someone tells you to forward an email to all your friends please forget that I'm your friend.
