Are they requiring that you buy the domain or can you bring your own?? If
they allow you to bring your own, that's not so bad. These days, $35 is
pretty steep.

It depends which domain you purchase from the free hosting providers. Cost of domain name changes with tlds.

$35 is a bit much for a domain name and enough to scare the customer off but like Josh said it depends on tlds also.
