| Hi, I am looking for a new web host, not necessarily a free one that offers reliable service. I have had several hosts in the last year, most of them weren't reliable! My only requirements are Linux, SSH access, and 99.5+ % uptime guarantee. Thank you in advance. Judy S. | |||

| The one and only host I would reccommend are Pathfinder Host. The best I have ever dealt with and that sums up their whole service. http://www.pathfinderhost.com/ Thanks, Ross "Judy Strassen" <judy@eugeneflorist.com> wrote in message news:dCfTa.114968$Io.9815904@newsread2.prod.itd.ea rthlink.net... > Hi, I am looking for a new web host, not necessarily a free one one > that offers reliable service. I have several reseller accounts, but not many services offer SSH access, and what would you be after if the 99.5% uptime 'guarantee' failed (ie what compensation would you be after) ? | |||

Hi Judy, Most of the places would not allow SSH access . Why do you need SSH in the first place. Also when asking for SSH you must have a photo identity of your which you can give then it is not going to be a problem. Else everybody would think you are a spammer or hacker. | Yes I really have to know the person and can trust them before I give them SSH. ----------------------------------------------------------------- "Amarjyoti Krishnan" <amarjyoti@poornam.com> wrote in message news:TG7Va.685734$Ho4.4976100@news.easynews.com... > Judy Strassen wrote: > > > Hi, I am looking for a new web host, not necessarily a free one > > one > > that offers reliable service. | It really depends on why you need it. Some people like myself allow SSH if a good enough reason is given I saw somewhere once that most FTP programs can do most that SSH can do so I dont know if that is true or not but if your serious about shell and can say why you need it I will allow it. Say for example a hosting company could take an account from you and take in all details of your clients and try to get them. Hence shell access must be restricted. Anyone who knows how, can run just about anything via CGI that they could/can via SSH...its just more convenient to do it via SSH. Anyway, most any Cpanel host should be able to give you SSH access (directed to the original poster). --Tina -- http://www.AffordableHOST.com - hosting since 1997 Cpanel, Multi-Acct., Resellers, Server Pkgs., $5.95 and up.
