A question about hosting

I m planning to get number of hosting companies in my future website..
But Many says to be carefull..
They say think about the "reseller value" thing. What is it? and they also recommened that server with different services such as SSI , cron service, and dedicated severs. Since I am not in the issue of that depth. Can please any explain what are those and how to look for a good servers provider out there..
