Is free web hosting really free?

I heard that free web hosting will provide you the space, but you will also have the advertisement such as banners or google adsense on your web. Is it true? Is there any free web hosting that will not do this?

I am not into free hosting my self as they tend to close the account when ever they feel like it, as for no banner hosts yes there are some but I dont know them off the top of my head, there are also hosts that will just have a small link on the pages as well

yep they are free, but I'd advice you to just pay like $1 a month or so for hosting, cause you know, you get what you pay for. Hosting these days isn't expensive, you can get a great host for like $5 a month, so....just pay and get quality services!

I use Freewebs for a stupid site I run with a friend of mine, but I havn't been able to find and adds on them only in the lower balk some text. Same for my layouts dump site. http:www.freewebs.com/applejuize

hmpf.. it IS my site, but Watcha has made it, and I just don't really like it (nothing wrong with it, but I just can upload pics, add some text and that's it. I can't do any html myself, and I'd just like to try that out and all..
But the link is http://applejuize.co.uk. I;m just afraid I dont know how to do it, if I did it all alone.. or does it work kind of like freewebs? with making folders and stuff?

and it's not that hard, just learn it and work under like a subfolder of your site or something! That way you can learn it yourself!
