Default Desktop Search 3.0 and multiple Outlook mailboxes

Hi,

I installed Windows Desktop Search 3.0 (exact version info not available)
and Windows Live Toolbar on Windows XP SP2 with Outlook 2003 SP2 connected
to an Exchange Server. I have one Outlook profile that connects to my
mailbox on the server and also opens another mailbox I have access to.

With Windows Desktop Search 2.6.5 the second mailbox could also be indexed
and searched. I don't see how to configure this with the new version. Is
there a plug-in as for UNC access available? Do I need to login with the
owner user-id of the other mailbox and configure the Desktop Search, but I
guess I cannnot access the index when I logon again with my user-id?

Many Greetings
Michael

Default RE: Desktop Search 3.0 and multiple Outlook mailboxes

I have the same problem when upgrading to Windows Vista. The desktop search
is now integrated in the OS and it doesn't index the additional Outlook
mailboxes in my profile.

In my previous Windows XP setup with Desktop Search Version 2.6 I could
easily specify which mailboxes, folders to index. Now the setting screen has
very limited options.

Is there a way to tell the vista search to index additional mailboxes?

Thanks,
-Minh

Default Desktop Search 3.0 and multiple Outlook mailboxes

Hi all,

One thing you could do is give yourself rights to the second mailbox and add
that mailbox to your default outlook profile. You can do this by clicking
the file->other users folder->inbox or for a better solution, click on
Tools-> Email Accounts->View or Change existing e-mail
accounts->Change->More Settings->Advanced click the Add button to open these
additional mailboxes. Also while you are here ensure that you have Use
Cached Exchange Mode selected.

This should do the trick for you. This way both mailboxes are in your
default profile and available to WDS for indexing.

hth,

Jeff

This unfortunately does not work. In WDS 2 it was working as you described,
I tried it exactly that way with WDS 3, but no luck.

One problem could be that the second mailbox is not included in the offline
storage. The check mark 'Exchange cache mode' seems not to have influence on
other opened mailboxes.

Hopefully Microsoft will develop a protocol handler such as for UNC, FAT and
IE history.

Many Greetings
Michael
