Do popups decrease chance of being listed in directories?

Hello members

I have an affiliate review site that I want to submit to directories, and I'm just finalizing it first.

There's a popup, actually it's a popin or dhtml menu that doesn't open a new browser window, the FIRST time someone visits the site only.

Should I remove it before I submit to directories? Will keeping it prevent me from being listed in some directories?

It increases the optins to my newsletter by quite many, so I only want to take it off the site if it'll make a significant difference.

there are lots of things that popups stop, if I go on a site and it has popups then I walks away right away, if my blocker is on then it slows the loading of the page so this also makes me walk away

Pop ups are usually annoying, distracting and irritating so probably one should stay away from them imo.

I agree. I detest popups and popins. Although it is shown on the first pageview of your visitor, I would say that the first pageview of any visitor, if you have popups or not is very important. You have to try and keep them longer than just the first pageview and a popup is going exactly the wrong way about it.

If I visit a site for the first time and get a popup straight away, then how do I know that there isn't anymore. I would probably just leave just incase.

That's just my thoughts though.
