This is kind of new to me but I really need to ask it, what is the best search engines for getting to number one for

If you mean which would be the best search engine to have a top ranked site in, then it would be Google, for the simple reason that it's the most used search engine.

If you mean which search engine would it be easiest to get a site at the top of the ranking, then it would probably be MSN, though of course it all depends on the amount of competiton you have from other sites targeting the same keywords.

Aiming for number 1 in any of the big search engines, Google, Yahoo, MSN is always going to be extremely difficult though.

With my two sites MSN was the quickest with Google being next.

Yahoo seems to be a pain to get indexed from what I can see.

I hope I do aswell, it is starting to look hard on the ranking front, I dont think that people know how hard it is looking at it anyone can get a website up and running but its the traffic and the ranking of the website that looks to be the hard bit.

I agree this is a hard battle but do not get lost in the way! Sometimes we are so obsessed with getting the top ranks that we forget what this is all about.
Ok, we all want to make some money while we are at it but we also need not to forget we are providing a service here and may it be the best we can. In the meanwhile, the better the service you provide, the more your visitors will return to you.

There is always the risk of over-optimising your site; this happens a lot to beginners because they fill theirs heads with all the info they get around on the net.

easy search engines to rank if for me goes like this

1 = MSN
2 = Yahoo
3 = Google

Msn is just way to easy lol i have even ranked high with pages like www.xbox-360-console.co.uk with out any backlinks and stuff it got ranked high within 10 days of buying the domain

Yeah, i find it easy to get listed on MSN / Google but harder on Yahoo it can be quiet hard to get listed on big keywords.

I know there is a site that checks them all and tells you if its listed with how many pages ect.
