Default Help With Website

Hi all,

I have just finished designing my website and need some help and advice so that I can make improvements to the look and feel of the site, I am not a web designer I have done all the work on the site myself as I could not afford to pay for a professional to do it for me. I was hoping some of you could have a look and let me know you thoughts for example layout, ease of navigation and any other major points I may have missed.

Website address is: http://www.icon-ltd.com

Thanks in advance.

What is Verified by Visa?

Verified by Visa is a unique service that uses personal passwords or identity information to help protect Visa card numbers against unauthorized use. Once activated your Visa card number cannot be used for online purchases without your personal password. Verified by Visa is available for most Visa cards from participating financial institutions.
From what understand, this 'Verified by Visa' is a thing that Visa provides to INDIVIDUAL card holders and not to sites.
So if I am not mistaking, why are you deceiving the customers or potential customers of your site? Why do you have to include that to make them feel secure?

I know you’re not really good at this, or so you said. But you have TONS of HTML errors.

Those are just SOME of the HTML ERRORS found on your site.

Your terms of service...
You need to revise and edit this as it has MULTIPLE spelling mistakes which contracts and TOS should NEVER have any mistakes.
I am not going to go through all your mistakes as this post would be about a page longer and I think if you read through it you will find them. If you can’t find them, then you shouldn’t be running a business but should be back in school.
Yes I know, everyone makes mistakes; but before releasing a website to the public you should ALWAYS make sure every spelling error is gone.

The design is kind of plain; there are FREE templates out there that would make your site a lot more attractive and professional looking.
Not trying to be mean when I say this, but it looks like some little kid did it in his spare time without putting much effort into it.

Navigation is pretty easy because it is all up top and there is nothing around it to get in the way.

That’s about it for now,

The verified by visa and mastercard secure code are things that the customer have to sign up to but we as the seller also have to sign up for it, not all sites provide these security methods hence why we have made a point of it.

Like I said I started learning to do web design about 9 weeks ago before this I had never looked at any html code at all so I expected there to be coding errors but I can do no better.

The spellings are fair point and we will look into them.

As for the design and the use of free templates my original website which was posted to start this thread was designed using a free template which looked really nice and interesting but I received massive ammounts of negative feedback saying it did not look professional enough and we should aim to be more like ebuyer ccsonline and dabs.com hence the change to what you see now.

The number one question to keep in mind when building a site is "How well am I solving the visitor's need?". If you're able to keep this perspective in the forefront of your mind, and build your site to suit, you'll do well. People come to sites looking for a solution to their searching. If you can do this with relatively as few clicks as possible, you'll win. Design is important, but let's face it, how many sites have you seen with nothing but a bunch of words scrolling down the page offering visitors the "secret" to make a million dollars or other types? Those sites are poor on the readers eyes, but those sites are also selling their products. So, they are providing the solution.
In contrast, I've been to some really cool looking sites that offer very poor navigation. Sites that have me guessing how to go to a different page. I don't stick around those sites too long.

Your site (to me) provides solutions to those who are looking for electronic components. It looks pretty simple to find a product I might be searching for and put it into my cart, ready to purchase. IMO, it's designed pretty well, especially for having only started a few months ago.

Since you're looking for feedback, it would be wise to clean up the errors, but I still think you have a pretty nice looking site. We can always improve on our sites.
