Website traffic and big sites

Do you think that all these big websites get there website traffic from search engines or from advertising on other websites

I'd say a combination of word of search engine traffic, advertising and word of mouth. A lot of big sites do well in search engines and probably get large amounts of traffic from it.

i think 80% of the traffic comes from the search engines, try this one.
list your site with astalavista and see the resutls for a month while doing some link building, then list your site with google and try the same, you will find the difference.

i agree with marriane, because when ever i need some information, i directly go to google.com or yahoo or msn and search through it, didnt go directly to the site.

Why people do search engine optimization? answer is to give peoples their website URL and these are the only ways to give your websites URL so how can we say any third option.

no because the trafic is not from the search engine every domain hosing have it's own servers
