| http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147392 http://www.dna.fr/france/20070321_DNA006098.html "FF13 exclusive is being discussed Interview with Sony France PR" Babelfish "The development cost of the plays exploded, it becomes difficult to have exclusivenesses, except our own plays. But we will have as of launching 30 plays, of which Motorstorm, Resistance or Virtua Fighter. Moreover, we await 200 plays from here the end of 2007. Lastly, for Final Fantasy XIII, I can say to you that exclusiveness is under discussion." if Final Fantasy XIII goes multi-platform that's probably the final nail in PS3's coffin. even if Metal Gear Solid 4 and Tekken stay PS3-exclusive (i think they will) those two games aren't enough to hold PS3 afloat. PS3 has lost, among others, the following exclusives Resident Evil 5 Grand Theft Auto IV Virtua Fighter 5 Devil May Cry 4 Ace Combat 6 Dragon Quest IX (PS3 isn't getting it at all, it's DS-exclusive!) Sony is going to have to offer Square-Enix a ****TON of money to keep FFXIII exclusive to PS3. what do ya gotta say about that Blig Merk ? | |||

Sony may win a massive pyrrhic victory over HD-DVD to be the leader in a small and soon dead market because no-one wants it. That IS a possibilty y'know. It's not like millions of people will rush out and buy 1080p HD TVs to turn it into a big enough market like DVD is now. The games industry is in a mess as well. Games cost waaaaay too much to develop for the HD games market and they need to sell shed loads to recoup costs

And then you have it, global game over in one shot. -- Zo

Who knows - maybe they don't want exclusivity - maybe someone as MSGS hates the FF games and wouldn't pay $50 for a copy let alone $50m for an exclusive launch. There is a rumour, and I hasten to add it is nothing more than that, that Take 2 are going to be put up for sale and MS are going to throw their hat into the ring. MS also have some of their own produced big sellers - Halo 3 for one (regardless of whether you think it's any good or not, it WILL sell) as well as Forza 2 (this will shift machines as well) which I think is shaping up to be better than GT5 or whatever it will be called, and that's the biggest selling franchise on the PS.

It's not like Nobody really wanted DVD at first either; VHS was just fine, and moreover you could record on it. It's not consumer demand that drives these new forms of media, but studio demand. Then consumer demand catches up when the players and discs get cheaper and people realize that the improvement over the older medium is significant. What I do find interesting are the rumors that Microsoft will buy out Take Two, but I'm not sure if Rockstar's relationship with that publisher would oblige them to go along with it.
