| http://ukresistance.co.uk/pics4/ps3-currys-evidence.jpg Currys, the UKs biggest electronics retailer, is desperate to get pre- orders sold!!! The counter is, of course, that Sony has done the impossible and supplied to meet demand. However, as any console veteran knows, if a retailer is openly insisting it's staff try to sell more pre-orders because they have not met their targets, then it's clearly a dud. The PS3 will sell a few hundred thousand this friday, but after that, sales will be sloooow. Two bits of evidence: 1. A friend of mine put down a pre-order for a PS3, she doesn't even know why - she just had a £50 off voucher from a catalogue shopping company. She's going to cancel because she didn't realise it doesn't 'come with any games' and that she needs a high def TV to play Blu-Ray movies, and to get the best out of the console. 2. The sole person at work to pre-order a Ps3 is going to return his pre-order because he realised he just can't justify £425, and then have to fork out another £40-80 for games. He doesn't even have a High Def TV either. 3. My local BlockBusters is unable to shift them. They were asking me why it's more expensive, and were confused about why the PS3 won't play HD-DVDs, or the 360 HD-DVD player wont play Blu-Ray disks. I'm willing to bet that 1000s of these so called 'highly anticipated' pre-orders that Sony and it's minions boast about, are merely chavs pre-ordering simply because it's a Playstration 3, and havent really thought it through. £500 for a PS3, HDMI cable, 2 games, well - that's a LOT of money. In the same blockbusters, they are selling XBOX 360 core units with 1 game and a 64 mb memory unit. for £200. Essentially, it does the same as a PS3 for most consumers, and they don't have to fork out nearly £260 more. That can get you every AAA 360 game, some of which are on discount/sale/classics lables. Or you can buy an XBOX 360 HD-DVD player for £130 and 5 movies, and VGA cable for 1080p. (Given that you have to pay £25 for a Blu-Ray remote). Simply put, once the fiasco that is the Playstation 3 launch is over, there will be a lot of people wondering what they've just spent £425 on, realising they now need to spend another £600 on a new TV, and another £10-20 on a HDMI cable, that half their PS2 games don't load, and that after all that expense their friends £199 XBOX 360 has better looking, amd more fun games. The PS3 is DOOMED in Europe. | |||

I think a lot of it has to do with an evaporating eBay effect. The European eBay whores saw a whole bunch of Japanese and Americans get burned and they aren't eager to repeat the experience. Still, you can't count your systems before the launch... Sony could end up surprising everyone. Current Stats: Japan: 1) Wii 2) PS3 3) 360 U.S. 1) 360 2) Wii 3) PS3 Europe 1) 360 2) Wii My prediction for the end of 2007: Japan: 1) Wii 2) PS3 3) 360 U.S. 1) Wii 2) 360 3) PS3 Europe 1) Wii 2) 360 3) PS3 - Jordan - Jordan

Sales rate I see, but the 360 has a large enough lead, I don't see it as likely. For the Wii to catch up it would have to succeed the 360 by over 500,000 per month. - The Rich

I know a lot of people with a Wii and I don't know a single one of them who thinks they'll still have it in two months. If it doesn't get some very good games pretty quickly, I think it will drop one position in each of your 2007 lists. -- Zo

The Wii already has 1/2 the user base the 360 has and they did it in, what? 4 months? - Jordan

The only way the 360 has a chance of retaining it's #1 position is North America and Europe would be to have a major price drop (at least $100 US on the Premium but more like $150 US).

You'd need to do some complex speculation on the console sales jumps created by some marquee titles being released in the next year, of which the 360 has many more than the wii coming. All I'm saying is I don't know if the Wii will be no1 worldwide in 12 months time and I don't see how any of you can do anythign other than guess right now - there are too many variables to take on board. Having said all that, I would feel pretty confident predicting the PS3 won't be no1

The question is whether these types of games can attract the casual gamers who are contributing the most to the high sales rate for the system.
