| Hi all I'm doing 25 A1 size posters for my historical display. I'm using a combination of Draw & Paint V10. I'm having major troubles with resolution and image size in terms of MB. I need to have a 300dpi resolution, but this is proving too great for my computer to handle with the A1 size paper (594mm x 841mm). My background image before I put any graphics or text on is well over 300MB. My computer is quite good being a Celeron 2Ghz with 512MB RAM, 20gig HD & 64MB grahics card, but it's not handling these large file sizes very well. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get round this problem? Maybe work in a smaller resolution and then make it 300 dpi at the end? Would that work? Any help would be greatfully appreciated. -- Richard Hull Operations Manager Esk Historical Homestead | |||

If you are printing that large, you are going to run into trouble with any bitmap images, especially if you want 300 dpi resolution. The solution is to either (a) not use bitmap images, or (b) if you must use them (background, whatever) display them at smaller resolution. On the other hand, vector graphics, such as Corel Draw, can be printed at large scales, such as you are using, with excellent resolution and without bloated file sizes, even at 300 dpi. Try a test yourself: Eliminate the bitmaps from one of your files and see how big the file is at 300 dpi. HTH. | |||

| Thanks for your advice. Yeah, I really need bitmap images. Basically I'm putting 2 or 3 100 year old photo's on each display board, with feathered edges & depetched etc and these blend in with the background (which incidentally is a photo of clouds but I've smudged them a bit, made them sepia and they look like old parchment or paper. ) So do you think I could get away with say 150 dpi for this size paper? I guess as I'm goiugn for an old fashioned look, even if it is a bit grainy it may even enhance the display. I've done a print out of one on my A4 printer, but I guess that wont give me an accurate proof will it?
