| Yesterday we were doing a two spot colour job which included some images. For jobs of like that (which has less ink spread) we uasually create Nova plates in house using the HP5000 laser printer. I work on corel draw 10 with Photoshop 6 for image editing and my question is, what is the best way to setup the bitmaps in Phottoshop so when I import them in to corel they remain spot colour. I tried creating monotone bitmaps and importing them but corel just shows a grey image, instead of the PMS. Basically I would like to know how to preserve the spot coloour value of a bitmap and use it in corel. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. | |||

| As far as I am aware, only the duo tone mode is able to retain spot (PMS) colours, and that is in Corel Photopaint. Image editing programs are really only for bitmaps that, when printed are usually in black & white or greyscale or CMYK and less frequently in duotone (or tritone etc.) Monotone bitmap images (black & white) can have the colour changed to any PMS colour in Corel draw by selecting it and setting the outline colour to what ever PMS shade you want. Although there is no outline, Corel will set the bitmap to the desired colour. You can only do this with monotone (1 bit images). Alternatively, you can do what I do. Set images in Corel draw such as a greyscale image and all the other vector graphics to black and white and/or greyscale but when you get them on the printing press you can print them with the correct colour. Thatsmeview. | You can create the duo/tri/quadtone image in Photopaint, but I think the only way to maintain a bitmap's PMS values is to save it as a DCS file. Yes, these images will look greyscale.
