copy paste into limits

I was making a wallpaper [link above] to insert the images I used copy and
paste into. The huge image in the rear I tried to use copy, paste into the
syringe shape also, but all I could get was paste behind in the actions dialog.
I actually liked the appearance so left it as is, but no matter how many times
I tried, it just would not 'paste into' as the other 6 images did.
Is there a limit to how many images can be pasted into another image or shape ?
