Default How do I replace this background?

http://www.pbase.com/image/19377362

Is there a fairly simple quick way to replace this background with
another more neutral one? I took about 10 shot against this
background and would like to change them all.

Of course the easy answer is to use a better background but that
wasn't ther case here so I will use this as a PS learning
opportunity...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

I have Version 7

(1) It's called "masking". (To isolate the foreground/remove background).
(2) BUY A FREAKING PHOTOSHOP BOOK!!!

Extract the foreground and apply it over a new layer with the
desired background. Use the extract command in filters. In the
sample I used Corel knockout which is a similar to the Adobe
extraction tool. I didn't spend much time cleaning it up though.
In this case a new layer was made with a gradient using tones from the
image. http://members.accesswave.ca/~parkla...rtraits09a.jpg

Default How do I replace this background?

http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/branches/branches.htm

choose a method from this page and have at it (method No# IV should work
nicely with your image). There is more than one way to change a background
and it all depends on the image you have and what you want to do with it.
Sometimes one way is simpler than another depending on the image. This page
will show you several ways to go about this.

All I was looking for was little guidance to get me started, which I
received from the other responders. Many thanks to them for that.

You, on the other hand, sound like a real jerk

Beautiful! I also received a sample from another participant that was
equally wonderful. It obviously can be done so now I will try and
figure out how you do it with your suggestions. Thanks again.

Lots of ways to select the girl against this background. example, use the
extract-command (filter). Mark the box "smart highlightning" and you can
easily and fast trace the girl and remove the background

Thanks. I have been practicing that approach along with the others
that have been suggested. This one is discussed on my Total Training
DVDs.
