The Best Multiplayer game for PC is Counter Strike. Lol i like very much and second one is Age Of Empire.

Counter-Strike: Source. It is a game based on true skill (occaisionally people will luck it, like everything else) and is fun at the same time. It costs only about £10 for C-S: S itself, a bit more if you buy HL2 so it's cheap but it's really worth a lot more so it's an immense bargain, also you can make your own maps, mods, etc. there's variations of zombie mods most people like the s**t one with zm_ maps which suck but you can find the good zombie mods on some servers. Also there's gun games where you have to kill with specific weapons, deathmatch where u respawn instantly around the map or you can play normally, no mods and/or custom maps if you wish. Some servers have the bank mod that allows you to save up your cash which gains interest every round eventually you will have enough you can set it to auto withdraw and buy the best weapons after pistol round. It is undoubtly one of the best games of all time.

Battlefield 2 though is on par with C-S: S, it's easier as a general FPS because it takes no skill to kill someone but there's so much to do, if you get bored of one role you can do something else.

RTS, Age of Empires II: Age of Kings, the Conquorers expansion sucks really, it's more a New World kind of thing where AoK is Old World which is more interesting. Sure the expansion improves on some stuff but those improvements make it easier, therefore AoK takes more skill and is more pro.

My favorite multiplayer pc game is Warcraft 2. To me it was the perfect strategy game. Not as overwhelming in unit management as Starcraft, and more focused on strong armies than warcraft 3. I also really enjoyed Myth 2, because of the different strategies you could employ in picking units and creating formations.
