Anyone Heard of DotA?

I am not a gamer myself, but these friends of mine have been playing DotA for months now. Since last year, even. I got to check it out yesterday while my friends are playing in a cafe. I can't think of anything to warm me up to it, yet they are totally hooked. They engage themselves in battles, yes. The graphics are good, okay. Well... What could be fascinating about it?

Is it a fighting game?

It is an online RPG, MadKad. Not a fighting game like Counterstrike, but they also have clan battles, that sort of thing. I gather they engage in battles so they can level up. And then they get to barter their levelled up weapons for the game money or trade them for REAL money. The flow is much like... whatchamacallit... Ragnarok.

They say DotA (Defense of the Ancients) is from from Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne. Aside from the online version, there is also a LAN game. Basically, to play it, you've got 1 map, 2 teams, 10 players, 48 basic items, and 77 different heroes to choose from.

yea.... i heard and play dota...
dota is fun... you can play with it anytime you like.... i played dota for about 2 years.. and im not really good at it
