| Just printed my first USPS postage paid label thru Paypal. Does this method automatically arrange a USPS carrier pickup? I had to put in a date to be shipped or picked up? But what if I intend to take it to the PO myself? Not that I want to take it to the PO myself, but what if I did? | |||

No, unless they have some tic-box for that, and you selected it. If there is, and you did, then an email is sent to the postmaster at the origination zip, who is then supposed to instruction the routeperson to make the pickup. This is not always a reliable process. I don't recall a pick-up option in the PP process, but then I've never been interested in using it, and they may have added something since I last shipped. > I had to put in a date to be shipped or picked up? Yep, and theoretically you must tender it to the USPS on that date, or cancel the label through PayPal and print a new one. > But what if I intend to take it to the PO myself? No problem as long as it's the PO at the origination zip code you specified. > Not that I want to take it to the PO myself, ... By the way, using pre-paid web-printed postage makes you a "known shipper" to the USPS, and you can drop the parcel in a box (at the origination zip), even if exceeds the 16oz "must present at counter" threshold. Of course, it has to fit into the box. -- Regards, Bob Niland mailto:name@ispname.tld http://www.access-one.com/rjn email4rjn AT yahoo DOT com NOT speaking for any employer, client or Internet Service Provider.

JUST A NOTE - you get a DC number when you use PP but it is not in the PO system unless you take it to the window of the PO and get them to enter it - if you want your buyers to track the shipment you have to take it to the window and get it entered Don't just hand it to them - make sure they scan it right then - as I understand it the PO employee is not required to do that but the good ones will

This is not always a reliable process. Handwritten note in my mailbox - "Please pickup metered pkgs at the front door- thanks, Craig - 5526" Works like a charm. I set my outgoing pkgs in one of those plasticized carriers that the USPS gives me and they magically disappear around 1300 hrs each day and are replaced by incoming mail. Don't even have to wait for lunch... all my labeled/paid packages are ZIP'd for home & I drop them off all over the city - wherever I happen to be that day. Rob

It shows up as the useless ESIR record until an enroute scan occurs. Historically, local POs might refuse to make an acceptance scan. This may be changing as the USPS attempts to make DC real tracking. Untrue. Not all zip codes have Post Offices. I've asked, and was told that as long as you don't drop it off in a zone *further* from what you paid for, it's really not a problem. It all goes into a giant container for sorting. Now....if the USPS ever does origination scanning, it'll be an issue. Maybe. Kris You learn to ask, when you're in Arizona and forget to mail it from Utah

TRY TO use first class or parcel post at clicknship - they will not take it - PO is greedy and try to force you into priority mail - don't even thing about media mail Go thru PP - it's easy & quick
