| The item in this auction - (not specifically *this* auction - just the item) Anyone had any experience of using one? I'm thinking it could be a lifesaver when data sharing between PC's and laptops where the existing zip drives and floppies arrangements can be a bit of a PITA and networking is not a viable option. If you've used one of these are there any pitfalls to think about before committing hard earned cash in that direction rather than on more zip drives and discs. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=2741831300 Cheers nice people, | |||

Laplink, or equivalent? Auction stated *Brand New* - anyway - I'm more interested in finding out if anyone's actually used one to get an overview on the option and usability. I'd probably (possibly?) source elsewhere if I decided on this route. I'll check out DABS though - thanks for that thought. Network cable - lol - in this case would need, at times, a few miles of it. Need to use both on and off site here and elsewhere. This item also suits the several Window$ versions I need to provide to and only requires drivers if used on '98/SE. Other than that, the house is like already like a snakepit with all the bits and pieces - I'm trying to avoid adding any more permanent clutter. >> Cheers nice people, >> Well, you're a pretty nice bunch - I've met far worse! > > You mad fool. > > Ali

On XP, it simply detects it, as you might guess. > > Network cable - lol - in this case would need, at times, a few miles of it. Ah, oops! > Need to use both on and off site here and elsewhere. Works a treat on Win 2000 - no hassle at all even with powering it from the USB port. Only thing - would not work on my 4-port USB hub but is fine in a port on it's own. -- Dave Millard The From: and Reply-to: fields of this post are spam trapped. And small - and lightweight - and easy to pocket or bag up. Nowt dodgy going on - trying to simplify things really. Ohhh, the simpler it gets the more complicated things become. Maybe I should eBay *all* my gear, chuck the discs, say goodbye to the domains and sites and go find an uninhabited island somewhere to make a new domain in. Call it 'Gran's retreat' or summat.

| Or and HD MP3 player; I've a 20gb archos machine and as well as being an awesome player its highly useful for carting large files around. Plus you can 'treat' yourself under the guise of needing if for 'serious' tasks ;-) "BORG" <borg@deadspam.com> wrote in message news:97gjhvgp0asonsorgfc25uhrt4kjnbrpgj@4ax.com... > On Sat, 19 Jul 2003 23:05:17 +0100, "MC_Emily" <nomore@mail.invalid> > wrote: > > >Why not use a pen drive? > > > > or a USB CD burner like I got and CDRW disks > > > -- > E-Mail Addy obet(ng)qfy(qbg)cvcrk(qbg)pbz <---Rot13 it > watch out for spam trap in header > http://www.goodtraders.com/viewfeedback.php?nick=Borg > http://www.borg.dsl.pipex.com/ > Trike Power the TRUE Trinity | |||

It's fast (about twice the speed of USB 2) but still can't stand up to the speed of a drive connected directly to the motherboard or a fast IDE controller card (of which I have drives connected in both those ways too) -- Rid
