Default Who leaves feedback first?

As a general rule, who should be the first to leave feedback? Is it the
seller when he has been paid and posted the goods, or the buyer when he
has received and is happy with the item?

I'm beginning to think that on some occasions people hold back with the
feedback and wait for the other person to go first so they can see
what's been written about them before returning the compliment.

There is and should be no rule, feedback is entirely optional either way.

Personally I reply to feedback left by my buyers for two reasons:
1 - To protect me against idiots but mainly
2 - I can click on the auction link against the feedback and leave feedback
from the auction instead of trawling through all my 'feedbacks I need to
leave'

When selling - I always wait for my buyer to leave feedback first because,
to me, a transaction isn't complete until the goods are received and the
buyer is happy with them.

When buying - I leave feedback as soon as I've received the goods and am
happy with them.

they say it should be left as soon as the seller received payment and
when the buyer receives the goods and they are as described. But not
everyone leaves feedback specially the bigger dealers who have a lot
going on I noticed.

Well, as a buyer (I haven't started selling on Ebay yet) I do greatly
appreciate when the seller leaves feedback as a way to acknowledge safe
receipt of my payment. Likewise, the second I get the goods I've won, I rush
to leave feedback to let the buyer know the post people have done their job
properly and that I'm happy with the purchase (if that is the case!)

IMO, the seller. They are the first party to whom something happens that's
worthy of feedback, i.e. payment.

There are two halves to the transaction, and each deserves its own feedback.
The payment may go smoothly while something goes wrong with the delivery or
goods, and vice versa.

But if you were the seller and left positive feedback for the buyer on
receipt of the payment, then the buyer receives the goods (which you know
are fine) and they start complaining about something, you could end up with
an unresolved dispute for which you left positive feedback!!!

Remember, feedback is about the whole transaction - not just the receipt of
payment.

I think the seller should as soon as they are paid, and the buyer when they
recieve the goods.

As a seller, i leave feedback and post the item all in one go, as soon as
payment is recieved.

As a buyer, when item arrives in good condition, feedback gets left.
